Sports Performance Anxiety and Mental Blocks
On any field, two games are occurring: a mental game and a physical game. For you and your teammates to attain victory, it is imperative that you are on top of your game in both. Do your part and prepare yourself for mental training beforehand.
Sports and Mental Training
Learn how to get over mental blocks and forget performance anxiety. Mental training in sports allows you to overcome these obstacles and hone your focus.
#1 You Will Not Fail
It is not an option to fail. Yes, there will be setbacks like game losses, but there are other ways to measure success than winning. Methods that include: contribution to your team, personal growth, and good sportsmanship. Focus on continually improving and discover new ways to emphasize your distinct skills.
#2 Mentally See Yourself Succeeding on the Field
Envision yourself making an impact in the game, whether it is successfully making a pass, scoring a goal or playing spectacular defense. Visualize where you are going and know how you are getting there. The brain will do the rest and pass the information along to the rest of your body. Stay positive!
I WILL succeed. YES! I WILL make this play. I WILL score this goal.
Do not give defeat an opportunity. You will meet your expectations.
#3 Create a Network of Support
There is no shame in seeking assistance. If you have difficulty with a particular drill or play, find someone to work with you until you have it perfected. All sports are played by a TEAM, whether on the field or off it. Even tennis is a combined effort between athlete and coaches.
Search for other means of support as well. Encouragement can come in the form of family, friends, coaches and other athletes. Find someone who excels in an area where you struggle and learn from them. Ask for tips and tricks to improve. Find people that will provide support both mentally and physically.
Listed are just three methods through which you can better both your mental and physical game. To find out more and receive more helpful tips, sign up for my free download.
